Basic Function and Scope of ResponsibilitiesThe Center for Student Success is seeking friendly, dependable, and customer service-oriented Federal Work
Study Student Workers to assist professional staff in supporting students, parents, faculty, staff, and campus
visitors in a fast-paced office environment. Student Workers will assist with providing general customer service
by answering routine phone inquiries, responding to basic questions using approved resources and/or directing
callers to appropriate campus services. This position is designed to provide meaningful work experience while
developing communication, customer service, problem-solving, teamwork, and another professional workplace
skills in a higher education environment.
Principal Responsibilities• Provide courteous and professional customer service to students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Assist students with navigating university websites and self-service resources.
• Route calls and visitors to the appropriate department when additional assistance is needed.
• Refer complex or sensitive questions to a Success Coach, Associate Director, or Director.
• Maintain the confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and University policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements• Must be a currently enrolled LIU student.
• Must be awarded and eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program.
• Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in accordance with University and Federal Work-Study requirements.
Training, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience• On-site training will be provided during the first week of employment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Friendly, professional, and dependable.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working ConditionsStudent Workers will work in the Center for Student Success under the supervision of professional staff and
assist with daily operations. Duties include answering telephones, assisting visitors, using a computer and office
equipment, and providing customer service in a professional office environment.
Materials & EquipmentStudent Workers will be provided with the equipment and resources necessary to perform their assigned duties,
including a computer, telephone/headset, and access to University systems required for the position.
