Job Description

Position Summary:

The Program Director of Fashion Merchandising is responsible for overall program development, management, and future academic direction, aligning with the university’s mission and strategic plan. The Director will have extensive knowledge of the fashion industry and instructional experience. The selected candidate will report to the Dean and collaborate with university leadership to expand opportunities for students and faculty.

The Fashion Merchandising program prepares students for careers across the fashion industry, including retail buying, merchandising, brand management, and fashion marketing. The program delivers a comprehensive education focused on both creative and business aspects of fashion.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with university leadership to develop and expand fashion merchandising facilities, including visual merchandising labs, retail simulation spaces, and potential student-run retail concepts.
  • Develop and continuously update the B.S. Fashion Merchandising curriculum to reflect evolving industry trends technologies, and best practice.
  • Schedule and organize classes, workshops, and fashion-related events for students.
  • Participate in academic and university-wide committees; represent the university at community, regional, and industry events within the fashion and retail sectors.
  • Grow the Fashion Merchandising program by establishing, maintaining, and expanding partnerships with fashion brands, retailers, showrooms, and e-commerce companies to provide internships and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Plan and coordinate industry experiences such as market visits, trade shows, fashion weeks, and company site visits.
  • Provide classroom instruction and academic support as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor faculty and staff while fostering professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs and Admissions to support recruitment, retention, and enrollment initiatives.
  • Prepare reports related to program accreditation, student learning outcomes, and academic program reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Skills, Knowledge, Experience: 

  • Established teaching record in higher education, preferably in fashion merchandising or a related field.
  • Administrative experience managing teams and overseeing program development, ideally in an academic setting.
  • Strong understanding of the fashion industry, including retail, wholesale, and digital commerce.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain industry partnerships within fashion, retail, and merchandising sectors. 

Education Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional experience in the fashion industry (e.g., buying, merchandising, brand management, or retail operations).
  • Industry certifications or specialized training (e.g., retail analytics, fashion business certifications, or visual merchandising credentials) preferred.
