Position Summary
The Department of Music at Long Island University seeks responsible and dependable student workers to provide general support for departmental operations. This position is designed as a flexible, entry-level student employment role and may be utilized to support a variety of administrative, academic, and event-related needs within the
Department of Music. Duties will be assigned based on departmental priorities, operational needs, and student availability. This position is open to currently enrolled Long Island University students. While music majors and students participating in departmental ensembles or programs are encouraged to apply, all eligible LIU students are welcome to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Student workers may assist with a combination of the following duties:
• Provide general administrative support, including filing, copying, data entry, and basic office organization
• Assist faculty and staff with day-to-day departmental operations
• Support rehearsals, concerts, recitals, and special events as needed
• Help with setup and breakdown of classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues
• Monitor practice rooms, studios, or departmental facilities when assigned
• Assist with equipment, instrument, or music library organization
• Serve as a point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, offering professional and courteous assistance
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission of the
Department of Music
Required Qualifications
• Must be a currently enrolled student at Long Island University
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed
• Dependable, punctual, and professional in conduct
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
• Interest in music, music education, music technology, or performing arts
• Previous office, event, or customer service experience
• Basic computer skills (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets)
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit, stand, and move between locations within departmental facilities
• Ability to lift and carry light to moderate materials or equipment, as needed
Work Schedule and Compensation
• Hours vary based on departmental needs and student availability
• Compensation and maximum weekly hours are determined in accordance with
LIU student employment policies
