Job Description

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: 
Non-tenured part-time adjunct faculty position responsible for undergrad and graduate nursing students clinical rotations to area hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centers. May require laboratory hours on campus in practice lab, simulation lab, or graduate nursing lab. 

Principal Responsibilities: 
• Assigned for entire semester at clinical site and/or labs on campus. 
• Assigns patient to student nurses with safety protocols in mind to ensure students receive the most from their clinical rotations. 
• Supervise students in all aspects of care of patients/clients. 
• Conduct pre and post conferences in areas that do not interfere with the coordination of patient care. 
• Evaluate the clinical performance of the student (at midpoint and end-of-semester) and grade all clinical assignments as noted on syllabi determined by lecture professor.      For those who are not meeting expectations, establishes a mutual learning plan to achieve stated goals; notify the lead faculty and program chair of at-risk students as            soon as identified and at least weekly thereafter; complete final evaluation of student performance and submits student grades on time. 
• Create a dynamic, learner-centered environment that supports the diverse learning needs of the student population based on educational theory and evidence-based               teaching practices. 
• Develop engaging lesson plans. 
• Ensure the relevant learning resources are available. 
• Attend faculty meetings at least once a semester. 
• Assist in proctoring exams, if needed. 

Education Requirements: 
• Doctoral or Master’s degree in nursing, and active licensure as a New York State Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, depending on area of teaching assignment. Prior    experience in higher education is preferred. 

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience: 
• Must possess current clinical expertise in the area he/she is assigned and display knowledge of current adult learning principles. 
• Current certification in CPR and up to date immunizations. 

Working Conditions: 
• Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, may be required to execute the role. 
• Generally, follows established protocols, but may need to respond appropriately to unforeseen and highly stressful situations. 
• Proven ability to function with minimal direct supervision and to function effectively under sometimes unforeseen clinical situations. 
• Adhere to the rules of the assigned clinical location which may include, but not limited to, courses to be taken before clinical rotation(s) begin, immunization requirements,      student to patient ratio, and medication administration. 

Salary Range: $1,000-$1,350 per credit
